I'm not a bait dog! ~Akita Komachi and My Story~
February 17, 2021
Akita Komachi has a cleaner taste than Koshihikari.
Akita-grown cherries are particularly large, and are characterized by their clear, crisp texture and sweet taste that spreads throughout your mouth.
Tsuyahime has a firm, rather than crisp texture, while Koshihikari has a fluffy texture.
Komachi rice is by no means a "hard" type of rice, but rather has a chewy texture, which is the same for all varieties.
If we compare it based solely on the standard of "taste," it is in no way inferior to Koshihikari rice.
For the baby boomer generation
"Who is more beautiful, Yoshinaga Sayuri or Kurihara Komaki?"
It's a question of personal preference. Well, if we're talking about a great actress from the past, I'd say Meiko Kaji from Female Prisoner Sasori.
To those of the Heisei generation, I apologize for using Showa-era material.
I'm from Akita Prefecture and grew up with Komachi rice, so of course I'm a Komachi fan. If I could take one variety to a desert island, I'd probably reach for Tsuyahime, but in the end I'd go for Komachi.
I apologize for using a mundane analogy, but if I were in the fifth grade of elementary school, and the young lady I admired who was about to transfer to my school was Tsuyahime, then my childhood friend Komachi would always be by my side.
Who was my first love?
When I look back, it feels like it wasn't the beautiful Tsuyahime, but Komachi-chan, who had been by my side since I was old enough to understand .
In fact, there are quite a few customers who have always eaten Koshihikari rice, but who tried Akita Komachi and have since switched to Akita Komachi rice.
For those who have been fond of chewy rice since their time in Japan, we recommend you try Inazou Kokoro's Akita Komachi rice in Singapore .
2. Even if the seeds are the same
(1) How to raise
Persistent Komachi jokes.
We have four types of Akita Komachi: 1) conventional cultivation, 2) special cultivation, 3) pesticide-free, and 4) JAS organic.
These four varieties, of course, share the same genetic background as seeds. However, when grown without pesticides, the qualities released from the kernels are completely different.
Normally, the offspring of animals, including humans, have different faces and bodies even if they have the same parents.
On the other hand, with cultivated crops, it would be a problem if the height, fruit size, or taste of the plants next to each other were different. To prevent these differences from occurring, there are farmers who specialize in growing seeds separately from those for consumption.
There are paddies dedicated to growing rice seeds, which are carefully managed to ensure that no weeds or other varieties of rice are mixed in or growing .
Farmers buy seeds from wholesalers, but the growing environments of the farmers vary.
The skill of producers varies greatly depending on natural conditions such as soil and climate, and the techniques used by different producers, such as pesticide and fertilizer applications, cultivation density, and water management.
And what happens?
Although the seeds are the same, "Akita Komachi," by the time they are harvested there are significant differences in taste, grain size, and even the quality of the grains .
(2) Nurture over birth
What I'm trying to say is that plants, animals, and of course humans, ultimately depend on their environment.
For example, you could try going to a school in front of a private elementary school in Minato Ward .
A boy wearing a traditional chocolate-colored uniform and even a school cap is walking by.
"Yes! Thank you!"
He has such a strong aura of a well-mannered young master who has studied hard to get through the entrance exams and is ready to say thank you with sparkling eyes .
Next to it,
"I empathize with Michitsuna no Haha in The Tale of the Dragonfly."
She is in a completely different league from the ostentatious high-rise apartment moms like these, and if you go back 18 generations you will find a woman from the Yamanote area like Matsudaira Izunokami Nobutsuna ( of course, her age is unknown).
Then the final boss appears, a dignified man with yacht-like tan lines comes to pick us up in a huge German car.
On the other hand, what if the aforementioned Chocoboy grew up in a family in Adachi Ward where his father was serving time in prison for drug dealing, and his mother had a hoarse voice due to alcohol and tobacco damage, and worked at a rundown bar?
"Yes! Thank you!"
I suddenly wondered what kind of witty line he could come up with .
Even if they were of the same blood, if their environments were different, Chocoboy would probably have been riding a stolen motorcycle at the age of 15 .
Well, no matter what one's background, one never knows who will be happy.
However, it can be said that at least the "acquired character" of both plants and humans depends on the environment in which they grow up.
I thought about this while comparing four types of Akita Komachi rice.
I grew up in a remote area of Akita where Japanese Black cattle often escape (a pretty shocking sight), so I guess their so-called dignity is about the same as that of animals.
