*The rice is the same as that of a Japanese restaurant called "Shunju, Tameike Sanno" in front of the National Diet Building.
It was the original seed (= Echigo-Nan 17) at the time of the birth of Koshihikari in 1953 and the northernmost Koshihikari in the world!
Specially cultivated rice with more than 50% less pesticides and no chemical fertilizers (compared to Akita Prefecture cultivation standards).
This rice differs from commonly grown rice from the seedling stage, which is the stage of infancy.
Elite seedling growth is done in a separate nursery, like vegetables, to ensure that rooting is rock solid to withstand disease and climate change. (Photo shows the difference between pot/mat seedling)
The rice is then grown to maturity through "charcoal loam cultivation," a clean, varied, and nutritious mixture of homegrown organic fertilizer and purified charcoal.
It is very healthy as it grows up, with its dense, packed weight and plump, oversized grains of rice.
Niigata Koshihikari is actually a variant of "Koshihikari BL," which is actually a 2005 breeding that is very similar to the original.
The northern limit of Koshihikari is a strain of the original Echinan No. 17, which was developed at the Fukui Agricultural Experiment Station in 1944, when Japan was in the most difficult period in its history.
*Please note that rice bags vary by type and weight. 8kg & 10kg can be made a little cheaper if you choose "transparent bags for business use"!
